OSCAR NIGHTS AT FAITH
2nd Thursday of the month

That’s right! The Christian Education Committee has selected four movies for your summer entertainment. Each of these movies was honored in some way at the 82nd Academy Awards ceremony. The movies are distinctly different from each other. We think you will enjoy each one.

June 10th…“The Blind Side”
“The Blind Side” was something of a sleeper. It opened small but grew big as people spread the word, “Go see it! You’ll love it!” Sandra Bullock won “Best Actress” for her role as Anne Tuohy, a thoroughly white, upper class Southern woman, who, seeing a homeless black boy alone on the street, takes him home with her. And therein begins a story of family, discovery and love. Anne’s own friends think she has done something weird. But her husband and two other children are just as open, welcoming and supportive as she is. You will be cheering as you watch Michael Oher grow from a bumbling, poorly educated boy into an All-American college football player and first round NFL draft pick. The Tuohy family are his biggest fans. This is based on a true story. Michael Oher now plays offensive tackle for the Baltimore Ravens. Opening night for this film is June 10.

July 8th…“Julie and Julia”
“Julie and Julia” is the story of Julie Powell (Amy Adams), a low-level and bored employee of an insurance company. As a way of changing her life, she decides to cook her way through “Mastering the Art of French Cooking”, every recipe in the book in a year and blog about her experience. Side by side with this story, is the story of Julia Child (Meryl Streep) in France with her diplomat husband, Paul (Stanley Tucci). She, too, is looking for something to do.
